A 58-year-old sub-inspector of the Ghaziabad police died after the roof of the assistant commissioner of police (ACP) office in Ankur Vihar collapsed during severe storms and heavy rainfall in the early hours of Sunday.
Ajay Kumar Singh, ACP, Ankur Vihar, identified the sub-inspector as Veerendra Mishra. “In the storm and heavy rainfall, the roof of the court office collapsed on him. He was found buried under the debris. We took him to hospital but the doctor declared him dead,” he said.
Mishra hailed from Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah and his family stayed in Delhi. He had joined the UP police as a constable.
ACP Singh said that Mishra fell asleep while working late into Saturday night at the office to complete some tasks. “Around 2 am on Sunday, the roof gave way due to the storm, fatally injuring him. We called his family members and sent the body for a postmortem and will begin an investigation,” he said.
